PCB Prototype Assembly

Lead Free RoHS & WEEE Regulations

From 1st July 2006 WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and RoHS (Restriction and Use of

Certain Hazardous Substances) directives dictate that components and assemblies must be "Lead Free"
i.e. less than 0.1%lead by weight.

At present, legislation is in the second consultation phase and issues such as exemptions
(e.g. military/medical), enforcement and relaxations (e.g. spares, components manufactured prior to July
2006) are still to be finally addressed.

One thing is clear in that, as things stand, the producer (OEM), which means the customer is responsible and it is their responsibility to ensure compliance by the cut off date.

As the manufacturing partner to our customer we have to ensure that all our processes are compliant and that the assemblies we supply are compliant.

As well as ongoing equipment review and identifying suitable lead-free alloys, it has culminated in us producing lead-free Assemblies.

If you are an existing customer or a potential new partner, please don't hesitate to contact us to see where we can be of assistance.
